Colombia’s judicial officials have secured fat pensions for themselves by rotating offices to lengthen their tenures, radio station Caracol reported Sunday.
According to the radio station’s report, judicial authorities have investigated “carousel” cases where short-time officials hold multiple positions with high salaries for the sole purpose of filling time to obtain good pensions.
Through the carousel, some magistrates are able to stop working while receiving full benefits at age 50.
If judges exercise their duties, and if they meet the age requirements, they are entitled to pensions equaling those of Congress members, who according to newspaper El Tiempo receive pensions upto $15,000.
