Colombian airline Avianca will replace its Fokker 100 aircraft with the Airbus 318 on national flights announced Avianca President Fabio Villegas.
Villegas said that the changeover will take place in mid-June as part of the airline’s process of modernizing its fleet of aircraft, Caracol Radio reported Tuesday.
He added that the sale of preferred shares of Avianca-Taca is going well, the deadline for which is April 15.
“We don’t have exact figures of sales to date but we are very optimistic of the results that we can achieve at the end of the sale period next Friday.”
According to the president, the investments are fully guaranteed, taking into account that the airline registered in 2010 an income of more than $3billion with a predicted increase of 63% by 2015. Avianca-Taca registered a net profit of COP190 billion pesos ($105 million).
He said that the company has always been open to competition from the best airlines in the world and has been able to move forward including against the so-called low cost airlines. The total quantity of Avianca-Taca shares on offer for sale is COP500 billion pesos ($275 million) with a minimum investment of COP5 million pesos ($2,750).
