Emails between Miguel Nule and his ex-wife allegedly reveal that Nule payed a former Supreme Court president to counsel the Nule Group in secret over a scandal about alleged back-room deals with Bogota officials.
Nule wrote in an email dated July 9, 2010, to his ex-wife, Rina Mendoza, that he planned to give an apartment in Dubai to the ex-Supreme Court official. The email was revealed by Caracol Radio Friday.
The former magistrate vehemently denied receiving an apartment from the Nule Group, saying, “The fees [for his work] would never be enough to charge a sum like this, I never received an apartment in Dubai. I have been slandered and vilified. It has to be clear that there are two distinct people: Carlos Issac Nader and the other is Carlos Nader Simmons, a wealthy merchant, he could be the person in which they are referring.”
Issac responded to the scandal in an article from El Tiempo, admitting that he did meet with Nule Group officials in Panama to give legal advice on the recovery of their assets after the Bogota corruption scandal broke. However, speaking about the apartment Nader said, “Charging a fee like that is not within my honor. I had no idea they had an apartment in Dubai.”
The ex-Supreme Court President has been previously faced allegations of misconduct. According to a recently leaked U.S. diplomatic cable from November 2006, Nader reportedly obstructed investigations of politicians with alleged paramilitary ties in his home department of Sucre.
