Colombia’s government forensics agency, the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, on Monday confirmed that FARC guerrilla chief Sixto Antonio Cabana Guillen, alias “Domingo Biojo” was killed in a military operation on September 19.
Institute director Juan Angel Isaac Llanos told RCN Radio that the guerrilla, who was a member of the FARC’s Central High Command and political leader of the 48th Front, was 55 years old and born in Cienaga, in the northern department of Magdalena.
Defense Minister Rodrigo Rivera said on September 20 that Domingo Biojo was among those killed in Operation Strength II, close to the Ecuadorean border.
Domingo Biojo was one of the 50 FARC leaders wanted by Interpol and the United States for drug-trafficking, according to Semana.
Apart from “Domingo Biojo”, 21 more rebels were killed in the attack, of which 11 have been identified.
The FARC has suffered a series of heavy blows in recent weeks, including the death of second-in-command “Mono Jojoy.”
