In the trial of Medellin’s ex-Director of Prosecution Guillermo Valencia, and a business associate, a witness on Wednesday testified that the accused men requested information about the fate of notorious drug lord “Don Mario.”
Valencio Cossio, sacked director of prosecution in Medellin and brother of the current interior and justice minister, and businessman Felipe Sierra, stand accused of corruption and of being affiliated with the famous narco-paramilitary gang fronted by Daniel Rendon Herrera, alias “Don Mario.”
The witness in the case is an ex-prosecutor who was working against the gang.
Evidence shows that the accused made a payment to the then-prosecutor of COP5 million.
The witness claims, though, that the money was to repay for the cost of a birthday party she had hosted for herself at the behest of the two men, as reported by El Espectador.
A few days later, evidence shows that the ex-prosecutor underwent a costly cosmetic surgery, casting doubt on her claims.
Cossio is also suspected of accepting a bribe to remove the name and photo of an individual from government chart of the members of the “Don Mario” gang.
