Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos urged on Sunday Colombians to march in support of the ongoing FARC-government peace process.
Santos said all Colombians who believed in a peaceful end to the Colombian armed conflict should participate in the Peace March due to take place in Colombia’s capital of Bogota on Tuesday.
Santos said his dream was to see the country at peace, which could be achieved not only through dialogue with Colombia’s largest rebel group, FARC, but also through equity, justice, education and poverty reduction.
“[P]eace is not only constructed by talking to the enemy there in Havana, but [through] educating these children.”
Santos said the best tribute to the victims of the Colombian armed conflict would be to reach peace in Colombia.
FARC rebels and government negotiators are currently engaged in peace talks in Havana, Cuba, to put an end to nearly half a century of armed conflict.
