Senator Ivan Moreno Rojas has said that the Nule Group claims are completely false and that the evidence against him has been manipulated.
In the first round of hearings regarding corruption allegations brought against Moreno by Miguel Nule and other directors of the construction firm, the senator claimed that “The Inspector General’s office is competing with the Nule Group to see who invents more stories,” Colombian media reported Tuesday.
Based on the Nule Group testimony, Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez said that Moreno may have received an illegal commission of six percent for the public works contracts, an amount equal to $5.628 million (COP 10.5 billion).
In response to the accusations, RCN Radio reported Moreno as saying, “You should be taking my experience into account, Mr. Inspector General, and not giving credibility to the lies of the Nule Group. This is evidence from criminals, from liars, from people who each day someone becomes aware have contradicted themselves.”
The senator also accused Ordoñez of violating guarantees of due process and of making preemptive judgments on various occasions.
The second round of hearings is scheduled to take place next Monday.
