The penultimate stage in the Vuelta a Colombia 2009 had a rather exotic
winner, as it was New Zealander Glen Chadwick to cross the finish line
first in the streets of Bogota.
The Rock Racing rider finished more than three minutes ahead of Spaniard and teammate Francisco Mancebo, after 142 kilometers from Tunja to the capital city. Rafael Montiel completed the stage top three.
Race leader Jose Rujano of Gobernacion del Zulia did what he had to do to defender his lead in the general classification, as his advantage of more than five minutes over Freddy Montaña remains untouched.
This year’s edition of the Vuelta a Colombia ends on Sunday with an individual time trial from La Calera to Bogota.
Those interested in watching the race could do so at the finish, which is located near the senate and town hall at Plaza de Bolivar. Consequently, 7th street will be closed to further traffic.
