Thousands of indigenous Colombians have gathered in La María, Cauca to
demand a conversation with Colombian President Álvaro Uribe.
The native Colombians insist the State keeps their promise about the return of land stolen by paramilitaries, healthcare and education.
The indigenous also demand protection from paramilitary groups that have murdered several indigenous leaders over the past few months.
Indigenous from both the north and south have gathered and do not rule out blocking traffic to enforce their demand. According to media reports, between 12 thousand and 20 thousand natives have been mobilized to demand talks with the government.
Leaders of the natives have asked the police to respect their peaceful protest.
