The Colombian government will not cease its attempts at rescuing hostages militarily, Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos said Sunday.
Despite receiving fierce criticism from both rescued hostages and peace groups, the Minister claims that military operations to rescue hostages have resulted in 200 Colombians regaining their freedom in the last few year.
Critics of the military rescues say they threaten the lives of hostages, as FARC guards have orders to kill their captives in the advent of a rescue. The eleven deputies held alongside the recently released hostage Sigifredo López were murdered when their FARC guards thought a rescue attempt was at hand.
