Gross foreign direct investment in Colombia in 2009 stood at US$8.557 billion, far higher than expected, President Alvaro Uribe announced Tuesday.
“Today, even without having added capital investment, we can count a good sum,” the president told Bucamaranga radio station Onda 5, adding that it is “far beyond what anyone could have expected given the economic crisis.”
When purchases made by Colombian companies from foreign firms are subtracted, the net figure stands at over US$6.9 billion, Uribe said.
The head of state added that, despite the global economic downturn, in 2009 Colombia saw a high rate of investment, topping 25%, and high FDI.
