The rebel group FARC said Wednesday two crew members of a helicopter that crashed on July 10 in southwestern Colombia would be handed over to the Red Cross.
“The 10th of July 2012 […] in Argelia, Cauca, our units detained the citizens Juan Carlos Alvarez and Alejandro de Jesus Ocampo, crew members of an unknown helicopter that had been flying over the municipalities of Argelia, Guapi and Timbiqui for almost two months,” said a message posted on a FARC website.
The FARC asked the International Red Cross to facilitate the release of the two crew members.
“For the liberation of the previously mentioned persons we will convene a commission composed by the International Red Cross and the human rights network Isaias Cifuentes,” said the FARC, adding that the place and date for the liberation would be announced later.
