Former DAS director Andres Peñate admitted that Colombia’s
intelligence agency committed illegal wiretapping and infiltrated
criminal organizations, radio station La FM revealed Monday.
The radio station revealed parts of Peñate’s testimonies wherein the former DAS director confesses the DAS illegally monitored high officials and public personalities during the administration of his predecessor Jorge Noguera. Noguera recently denied having ordered any kind of illegal wiretapping.
According to Peñate he himself was a victim of harassment by the DAS when he was still deputy Minister of Defense.
Former DAS director Peñate also denounced the infiltration of drug trafficking gangs and guerrillas.
Peñate is being accused, together with Noguera and recently sacked DAS director Maria del Pilar Hurtado, of responsibility for the illegal wiretapping of government opponents.
