Colombian actress Sofia Vergara is the face of a Los Angeles school nutrition program called “Food for Thought,” reported Associated Press Thursday.
The initiative was unveiled by Vergara, Los Angeles school district officials and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
More than 250 schools and hundreds of thousands of students in the Los Angeles area will benefit from the program designed to improve the health and quality of food in the education system.
Herself a mother, Vergara understands the need for kids to have a good diet, she said. “I am a mom and I know how important it is to be well nourished so you can do all the things the day brings,” she said.
Vergara, born in the north-Colombian city of Barranquilla, has been living an working in the U.S. for years. Her fame grew after she began acting in the sitcom “Modern Family.”
