Colombia’s government on Friday activated a website where citizens can submit agricultural reform proposals to the government’s peace negotiators, giving the public a chance to participate in ongoing peace talks with FARC.
The website “Mesa de Conversaciones” was activated on Friday to provide the public with a platform to express their ideas regarding the peace process between the FARC and Colombia’s government. As of Friday morning, the site already had 2,689 proposals.
“The idea is that the participation will [include] rational proposals, short and realistic, in order to [help both sides]…reach these agreements and, hopefully, end this conflict,” President Juan Manuel Santos said on his radio program “Online with the President.”
Colombians who have suffered years of armed conflict now have the opportunity to participate in bringing a peaceful end to the guerrilla’s 48-year war against the State. The website contains portals for proposals, comments and links to pertinent documents.
