The United Nations (U.N.) invited Colombia to become a member of its Commission on Narcotic Drugs, an inter-governmental body dedicated to the investigation of international drug trafficking.
The 54 member states of the U.N. Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) selected Colombia to join the Commission, which studies the global issues of drug abuse and trafficking and proposes how to change the situation.
The Commission also oversees the implementation of international treaties on drug control and formulates principles and proposals for approval by the U.N. General Assembly.
