At least three men remain trapped after a coal mine collapsed in the western Colombian department of Valle del Cauca on Monday, reported Colombian media.

The incident took place in the municipality of Jamundi, located in the southern area of the department.

Emergency services arrived at the site and are in the process of clearing debris in order to liberate the trapped miners, who are thought to number at least three.

The cause of the collapse is not yet known by authorities.

At least six Colombian miners have died so far this year, following explosions in the mines they were working in.
