Colombia collected 45.7 billion pesos in taxes between January and
August of this year, including a 10 percent increase in August over
last year, show preliminary numbers.
Despite
the increase, which came due to a rise in internal taxes amid a fall in
external payments, plans are underway to strengthen enforcement against
tax evaders, director of Colombia’s National Taxes and Customs
Directorate, Oscar Franco Charry, told CM&.
“Tax penalization is one of the alternatives to raise collection,” Charry told CM& in a separate report.
