Authorities in Venezuela have captured a man strongly resembling the ELN guerrilla ‘Pablito’ who escaped from a Colombian prison last week, claimed the Commander of Colombia’s Military Forces.
The Commander, General Freddy Padilla, stated that authorities have been heavily pursuing the guerrilla, Gustavo Giraldo Quinchía Hannibal – alias ‘Pablito’ – who escaped from a prison in the Colombian department of Arauca with the help of armed gunmen who attacked his prison guards last Wednesday. Newspaper El Espectador stated on Wednesday that authorities have yet to establish the true identity of the man captured in Venezuela.
According to Police, ‘Pablito’ is as powerful to the ELN guerrilla force as the notorious boss ‘Mono Jojoy’ is for the FARC guerrillas – whose influence extends throughout suspected terrorist organizations far beyond the Colombian frontiers.
‘Pablito’ was first arrested in Colombia’s capital Bogota in 2008 and stands accused of crimes of rebellion, terrorism and murder. He is considered to be the primary opponent to peace talks between the ELN Central Command and the Colombian Government.
