The Copa Mustang match between Millonarios and Deportivo Cali, played
in Bogotá, was postponed by 45 minutes following fan violence. A Cali
player was injured by a rock thrown at the visitor side’s bus.
The rock, most probably thrown by a Millonarios fan, went through a window near Juan Guillermo Domínguez who was consequently hit by several pieces of glass. The player momentarily lost consciousness and required treatment at a nearby clinic.
Reportedly, police managed to arrest 18 fans of which only 5 are over the age of 18.
Following the incident, Cali players initially refused to play at El Campín. Millionarios did support their decision but after all decided to appear on the pitch as scheduled.
Cali officials eventually decided that the match would continue, albeit 45 minutes later than scheduled to give the away players a chance to prepare mentally and physically.
Millonarios president Juan Carlos López offered his apologies to Deportivo Cali fans, players and board members.
