A Bogota police officer was killed in the hours between Thursday night and Friday morning while on duty in Bogota, reported local media Friday.
Officer Alvaro Sierra was found dead in his police post Friday in the Colombian capital.
A routine call to the 25-year old officer was not answered at 11:45PM Thursday night, raising concerns about his safety. Local police were soon dispatched only to find their colleague dead with gunshot wounds.
Sierra was likely shot in the back at point blank range while he was checking his computer, according to preliminary reports from forensic investigators.
‘The [police] reject and condemn this regrettable incident,’ said Colonel Jorge Estupiñan. He added that the authorities expect to find those responsible in “a very short time.”
