Copa Mustang II runners-up Independiente Medellín face Uruguayan side
Peñarol in the first round of the Copa Libertadores. The winner of that
tie advances to the group phase.
DIM first host the Uruguayans at Atanasio Girardot stadium on January 28th and travel for their away clash in Montevideo on February 3rd. If Independiente survive this round, they will join Brazilian giants São Paulo in Group 4 of the second phase. Other teams in that group are Defensor of Uruguay and América de Cali, who qualified for the tournament by winning the Copa Mustang II.
As such, it is already certain that São Paulo will be visiting Colombia at least once, and possibly twice.
The remaining Colombian participant, Copa Mustang I winners Boyaca Chicó, have been drawn into group 7 with another Brazilian giant, Gremio Porto Alegre. The group is completed by Bolivia’s Aurora and the winner of the first round tie between Universidad de Chile and a Mexican side.
