Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority (Aerocivil) said that air travelers could be inconvenienced by delays caused by the heavy rains affecting the country, Caracol Radio reported Saturday.
Sergio Paris Mendoza of the Civil Aviation Authority called on air travelers to “arm themselves with patience” when faced with delays because it is possible that at times there will be closures at certain airports “due to the weather.”
According to a press release from the Civil Aviation Authority, the National Prognostic Center of Aeronautical Meteorology foresees over the Easter week, rain in the central and south of the county especially in the afternoon and at night with the exception of the coastal Caribbean where the situation is expected to be better. As a result of this, it is expected that there will be temporary closures of different airports.
Despite this Paris Mendoza said “air safety will not be affected” during this Easter holiday period when a greater than normal movement of passenger is expected.
Paris Mendoza also announced a 10% increase in the number of flights to popular Easter destinations such as Popayan, the Coffee Region, and the Caribbean coast, from 750 to 850.
Terrestrial transport has been affected by the heavy rains with the closure of seven mayor roads Friday.
