The Colombian navy on Wednesday confiscated almost a ton of cocaine from two boats in the Caribbean Sea, near the mouth of the Magdalena River.
The two vessels were “bound for Central America and belonged to criminals, suspected to be members of criminal gangs involved in drug trafficking,” a source told W Radio.
A navy press statement reported that “in a coordinated operation between the navy and the DAS [Colombia’s intelligence and security agency],” 906 kilos of cocaine were confiscated and seven men arrested. The cocaine is estimated at a worth of $22 million on the international black market.
Communication and navigation equipment and fuel was also found on the boats.
This year, the Colombian navy has confiscated over 55 tons of cocaine.
