Colombia faces Uruguay in the first round of next year’s Davis Cup. The
meeting will be hosted by Colombia, giving fans a chance to watch the
country’s best tennis players at work.
The Davis Cup is a tournament where tennis players from one country face players from another. Each meeting consists of four single player matches and one doubles match.
The best sixteen countries compete in the ‘World Group’. Colombia belongs to the tier just below, Group 1 of the Americas.
Six countries will battle to win this group, which gives access to a promotion/relegation play-off with a country from the World Group.
Another advantage of being hosts is that Colombia can choose its preferred court type. In tennis, this could mean a significant advantage over the visiting side.
If Colombia survive this match, they face Brazil in the semi finals. And if the final is reached, the opponent will be Peru, Canada or Ecuador.
Colombia meet with Uruguay from March 6th to March 8th.
