by Adriaan Alsema June 4, 2011

Colombia news - arrest

Venezuela has arrested one of the leading drug traffickers from drug gang Los Rastrojos, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said Saturday.

According to Santos, Venezuelan state forces arrested Rubernei Vargas, alias “Mono Quemado” close to the border with Colombia.

Vargas is accused of being the Rastrojos’ ringleader responsible of transporting drugs from Colombia to Venezuela.

The high-profile arrest is the second in a week; On Monday, Venezuelan authorities arrested “Julian Conrado,” a prominent FARC guerrilla.

Both Vargas and Conrado are expected to be extradited to Colombia within days.
