U.S. meteorological institute NOAA has lent 3 tons of meteorological equipment to its Colombian sister organization IDEAM, the U.S. embassy in Bogota announced Thursday.
The equipment will be used by IDEAM to help predict the behavior of hurricanes and local weather.
According to the embassy, the equipment will be placed in meteorological stations of the Caribbean archipelago of San Andres and Providencia, the northern town of Riohacha, the southern city of Leticia and the eastern department of Vichada.
The equipment will remain property of the U.S. but be operated by IDEAM personnel.
