Colombia news - Jaime Arrubla

The president of Colombia’s Supreme Court announced his resignation on Tuesday.

Magistrate Jaime Arrubla Paucar’s resignation comes a year after he was elected president of the court.

Arrubla will be succeeded by Magistrate Pedro Ignacio Munar in January.

In a press release, Arrubla said the year of his presidency was “difficult, but interesting” because of the court’s dealings with the illegal wiretapping of magistrates by state intelligence agency DAS and “attacks on judicial independence.”
