South Colombia town investigates leprechaun appearance

by Adriaan Alsema September 23, 2013

The mayor of a small town in the south of Colombia called on locals to form a search bloc to find a leprechaun-like creature that had allegedly been spotted in the area.

According to newscast Noticias Uno, the mythical creature was first seen by a girl and later confirmed by some 150 curious locals from the village of Paicol, who had been alarmed by the girl’s screams.

“He was ugly and had his legs the wrong way around from the knees down,” said Maria del Mar Rojas, the girl who claims to have seen the leprechaun first.

According to a local policeman, the leprechaun “was approximately 32 centimeters [tall]. He didn’t materialize completely, he just formed and then disappeared.”

Following the official’s confirmation of the appearance of the hairy fairy, mayor Norberto Palomino ordered a civilian search bloc to find the creature.

While the allegedly miraculous appearance of the Virgin Mary is common in Colombia, claims of the appearance of fairytale creatures are a relative novelty.
