Colombian television network RCN “lacks objectivity and professionalism” and “manipulates information,” said Reporters Without Borders (RWB) Thursday.

In an fierce open letter to the editors and host of the show “La Noche,” the journalist organization rejected the television network’s accusations of bias in regard to the recent liberation of French journalist Romeo Langlois.

The open letter came after the RCN aired a program critical of Reporters Without Border’s stance during the kidnapping of Langlois.

The RWB said it condemns “this programme’s lack of objectivity and professionalism, and its distortion of information.”

In its transmission, La Noche accused the journalism organization of “justifying” the kidnapping of the journalist and questioned the organization’s neutrality.

According to RWB, “La Noche’s” critics were “propaganda” that “showed no concern for balance.” while claiming that the delicacy of Langlois’ release required a less confrontational approach than the one suggested by “La Noche.”

Reporters Without Borders further stated that RCN’s accusations put the lives of journalists at risk.
