The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a project seeking to modify Colombia’s code of law to improve access to justice for victims of sexual violence in the ongoing armed conflict.
“The project proposes the adoption of a number of provisions which have to do with the definition of crimes of sexual violence, with norms of procedure in matter of investigation and legal [proceedings] of such conduct; with strengthening the speed and efficiency of justice, aiming towards] protecting the rights of women victims,” said Angela Robledo, co-author of the proposal, along with Congressman Ivan Cepeda.
According to Robledo, the proposal would eliminate impediments blocking womens’ access to justice. The proposal will now pass to Colombia’s senate.
