Prices for flights inside Colombia continue falling. Airfares decreased by almost 22% in Colombia in June 2009 compared to the same month last year, president of the Air Transport Association ATAC, Manuel Leal, told local media Wednesday.
While airfares of international flight with final destination in Colombia decreased by 4%, the prices for national flights fell by almost 22%, Leal reported.
An important role of the reduced prices are the lower fuel costs, the president of ATAC said. In July last year, the oil price peaked at US$147 per barrel. Currently a barrel costs less than US$70.
But not only the decrease in fix costs are the reason for reduced air fares. Colombian airlines have been actively reducing prices for flight tickets. Aires, for example, is currently offering national flights for 60 per cent of their original price.
