Colombia’s new prosecutor general postponed the court hearing wherein former DAS director Maria del Pilar Hurtado and former President Alvaro Uribe’s chief of staff Bernardo Moreno will be charged for their alleged role in the wiretapping of government opponents.
The hearing was postponed because the Supreme Court in the early hours of Thursday elected a new prosecutor general, who will have to study the case before proceeding with criminal charges.
PG-elect Vivian Morales decided to cancel the December 13 hearing after meeting with acting Prosecutor General Guillermo Mendoza on Thursday.
Moreno had agreed to appear in court, but del Pilar Hurtado has fled the country and was granted political asylum in Panama. Both are suspected of having ordered the illegal wiretapping of Supreme Court judges, journalists, human rights workers and politicians.
