Medellin police arrest 2 after airport shooting

by Adriaan Alsema July 2, 2013

A shooting inside Medellin‘s second airport caused panic, but left no casualties on Tuesday.

According to aviation authorities, three men attempted to rob a passenger who just got off the plane from the Pacific Choco department.

Airport security was able to prevent the robbery — which according to newspaper El Tiempo took place behind the gates — and arrest two alleged robbers.

El Tiempo reported that the attack was the third of its kind on the Olaya Herrera airport so far this year.

The victim of the robbery had arrived from the Condoto airport which is frequently used by gold miners.

In spite of the attempted robbery, aviation authorities said that its personnel is on permanent alert for criminal activity.
