The
Council of the Judiciary Branch of Chocó ordered the arrest of
Prosecutor General, Mario Iguarán Arana, for failing to fulfill his
duties.
According to Magistrate Piedad Helena Martínez, Iguarán is not “willing” to appoint prosecutors who gained positions based on merit.
Several prosecutors from Chocó gained positions at Prosecutor General’s office but are yet to be appointed.
The Magistrate said that “the slowness with which the Prosecutor General’s office conducts
the appointment of prosecutors, means that people are being denied basic rights, such as the right to health and education.”
The Chocó order is not immediately effective because Iguarán has the right to appeal against it before the Supreme Judicial
Council.
