The Libertadores de Vichada (Liberators of Vichada) are one of two neo-paramilitary drug trafficking organizations active across the country’s eastern plains.
The group formed after the demobilization of neo-paramilitary group ERPAC that in turn had formed during the demobilization of paramilitary umbrella organization AUC between 2003 and 2006.
The Libertadores have been engaged in a bloody turf war with rival faction Meta Bloc over ERPAC’s abandoned drug trafficking routes to Venezuela.
Since infighting began in 2012, the group has been able to take control over the entire area connecting Colombia’s coca plantations in the center of the country to the Venezuelan border.
