Kidnapped girl’s father offers to take daughter’s place

by Adriaan Alsema October 16, 2011

Muñoz family

The father of a 10-year-old girl who was kidnapped in the northeast of Colombia over two weeks ago told the kidnappers of his daughter Sunday he is willing to take her place.

Enrique Muñoz, mayor of the Fortul municipality in the Arauca department, said he was willing to take his daughter’s place after a planned Red Cross-coordinated release of his daughter failed Friday.

“If it is necessary to do an exchange I am willing to do what they ask, whatever, what I want is to talk to my daughter to know she is ok,” Muñoz told Bogota radio station Santa Fe.

The 10-year-old Nhora Valentina Muñoz was kidnapped on September 29 by an unknown armed group. The FARC and ELN, two leftist guerrilla groups that are highly active in the region, have both denied involvement in the kidnapping.
