U.S.-Colombian actor John Leguizamo on Thursday inaugurated Cartagena’s Hay Festival, one of the city’s most important cultural events of the year.

The actor, recently appointed as Colombia’s ambassador to Hollywood, opened the arts and literature festival with a chat about his life as a Colombian immigrant in the U.S. and his experience in Hollywood where he played in movies like “Carlito’s Way”, “Romeo + Juliet” and “Moulin Rouge!”

More than a 100 artists of all categories take part in the seventh edition of the Hay Festival in Cartagena that will last until Sunday.

Among the participating writers is American author Jonathan Franzen who received a National Book Award for his 2001 novel The Corrections.
