Colombia’s Inspector General on Thursday barred jailed senator Alirio Villamizar from holding public office for fifteen years.
According to the ruling of Prosecutor General Alejandro Ordoñez, Villamizar (Conservative Party) demanded money of a notary official in return of using his political power to appoint the woman to head a notary office in the city of Bucaramanga.
According to newspaper El Espectador, the Conservative Party politician received more than $700,000 by forcing the notary to cut salaries.
The Prosecutor General’s ruling is similar to that of the Supreme Court, that in July 2010 sent the former senator to jail for nine years and nine months.
