Colombian authorities believe that a hitmen> attack which killed four and injured three others in the town of Cisneros in the Antioquia department may be the result of a feud between rival drug trafficking gangs.
The attack occurred during a Colombian holiday on Monday, when a group of armed people arrived at a field where locals were playing the Colombian sport of Tejo, and reportedly began to fire indiscriminately.
Three men and a minor were killed in the attack, while another two men and a woman were rushed to hospital with injuries.
The commander of the Antioquia police, Colonel Jorge Rodriguez Borbon, told El Mundo that “preliminary investigations suggest that the attack is a retaliation by the criminal group ‘Los Rastrojos’ against that known as ‘Los de Uraba,’ to the last of which belonged two of the dead.”
Last week eight people died at the hands of hitmen in an Antioquia nightclub. Authorities believe the massacre was the result of a turf war between local narco kingpins “Valenciano” and “Sebastian.”
In May six men were killed and one was injured when members of a criminal gang run by narco kingpin Valenciano entered a farm occupied by “Los Urabeños.”
Cisneros is 88 kilometers north-east of Medellin. Authorities plan to reinforce security in the region.
