Brazilian football club Gremio of Porto Alegre will be playing its Copa
Libertadores match with Boyacá Chicó in the city of Tunja, despite
earlier reports.
Last week, representatives of Gremio said that the trip from Bogotá to Tunja would be too dangerous due to the many curves and, possibly, attacks by the FARC.
But Gremio’s vice-president, Alceu César Pacheco sent a latter to the Colombian ambassador in Brazil stating that all had just been a misunderstanding.
In the letter, Pacheco basically states that Gremio are confident that there will not be any problems travelling to Tunja, and that they expect to be well received.
“I have visited Colombia various times, to play with Atlético Nacional, América de Cali, Tolima and Cúcuta, and we were always well received in all of these cities, by the authorities, the directors and the fans of the clubs and we are sure that in Tunja it won’t be different.
“Certainly, we never intented to insult the governments, institutions and persons, and above all, the club Boyacá Chicó.”
