NASA Highlight: The Andromeda galaxy seen from Colombia

US space agency NASA on Tuesday highlighted this photo of the Andromeda galaxy taken from Colombia by photographer Hugo Armando Rua.

The Andromeda galaxy is the closest galaxy to our own, the Milky Way.

The galaxy lies at 2.5 million light years from the Milky Way and is 220,000 light years Across.

Its size makes it the biggest galaxy in our part of the universe and relatively visible through the stars of our own.

When looking at the galaxy from a telescope, it looks like this:
