Colombian footballer Freddy Montero has been named Player of the Month
in the Major League Soccer, the United States’ most important
competition.
The 21-year-old, born in Campo de la Cruz in Colombia’s Atlántico department, joined MSL side Seattle Sounders from Deportivo Cali this year. In his first two games with the Sounders, he scored three goals.
As a result, Montero leads the topscorer ranking and Seattle Sounders are currently first in the Western Conference.
Montero, who also played three games for the Colombian national team, broke through in 2007 when scoring 13 goals for Atlético Huila, on loan from Cali. A year later, having returned to Cali, he netted no less than 16.
Next Saturday, Montero will have a chance to add more goals to his tally when the Sounders face Toronto FC in Canada.
