Former officials to testify in Tomas Uribe bribery case

by Adriaan Alsema December 30, 2010

Colombia news - Tomas Uribe

Several former government officials have been called to testify against the son of Alvaro Uribe who is accused of having offered bribes to secure his father’s re-election in 2006.

Among those called to testify is Bernardo Moreno, Uribe’s former chief of staff, who was barred from holding public office for 18 years after the inspector general’s office found that he had been involved in the illegal wiretapping of opponents of the then-president.

The Supreme Court ordered an investigation of Tomas Uribe after the former superintendent of notaries accused Uribe’s son of being involved in appointing a notary office to a congressmen who had voted in favor of Uribe’s re-election bid.

Uribe was heard in July by the court about the alleged bribery.
