“Fabian Ramirez,” the military chief of the FARC’s Southern Bloc has been killed in an air force bombing, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said on Saturday.
“Preliminary information indicates that this terrorist was killed,’ Santos said at a public meeting in the northern city of Barranquilla.
Ramirez, responsible for the military operations of the FARC in the south of Colombia and member of the guerrillas’ “Estado Major” was killed near the city of San Vicente de Caguan in the southern Caqueta department, said Santos.
Following the bombing, ground troops entered and secured the area where they found the body of Ramirez and four other alleged FARC members, the President added.
The death of Ramirez would be the second important blow against the FARC’s military structure since Santos took office in August. The guerrilla’s military head, “Mono Jojoy” was killed in a similar raid in September.
