At least one soldier and one policeman were injured after an attack by the FARC on
Toribío, Cauca led to heavy fighting between the Colombian army and the
guerrillas.
Authorities told newspaper El Espectador the town was attacked by the FARC’s sixth front, before police and army were able to regain control of the area surrounding Toribío. The town is now surrounded by armed forces to prevent more attacks.
According to mayor Carlos Alberto Banguero, calm has returned to the
town, but says the town is subjected to FARC attacks regularly and the
army measures to protect the town are just temporary.
