FARC attack kills at least 7 soldiers in southern Colombia

by Olle Ohlsen Pettersson February 13, 2013

FARC

An attack attributed the Colombia’s largest rebel group, the FARC, on Wednesday left at least seven soldiers dead and five more wounded in the southern Caqueta department.

According to initial media reports, FARC guerrillas ambushed a large unit from the Colombian Army’s Sixth Division that was patrolling the Milan municipality.

“When the troops arrived at the location, there was an encounter which killed seven soldiers, we know there are dead guerrillas. However, the difficulties in the zone and the hard fighting has not permitted us to arrive to this zone,” said a source within the Army’s Sixth Division according to newspaper El Espectador.

As of Wednesday afternoon, combat continued between the FARC and the army in the area.
