Cyclist Rigoberto Uran won silver, Colombia’s first Olympic medal, Saturday in the men’s cycling road race.
Uran ended only a fraction of a second after gold-medal winner Alexander Vinokourov after being beaten by the cyclist from Kazakhstan in the final sprint.
The two men had broken from the main pack together with Americans Tejay van Garderen and Taylor Phinney, Britain sprinter Mark Cavendish and Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins, also from the U.K.
Uran escaped the leading group less than 7 miles before the finish, but was tailed by Vinokourov who outsmarted the Colombian and won the final sprint.
