Criminals plan to kill Bogota prison guards: Caracol

by Adriaan Alsema February 6, 2011

Colombia news - Picota prison

Guards of the maximum security ward of Bogota‘s La Picota prison fear for their lives after the murder of one of their colleagues, Caracol Radio reported Sunday.

According to the radio station, several sources confirmed that four guards are on a death list after the prison implemented extra security measures in the prison’s maximum security ward.

These measures were taken after a high-ranking member of neo-paramilitary group ERPAC, “Carecuchillo,” was found in his cell with a woman in December.

Following the extra security measures, one of the guards was threatened by phone and found dead the next day. The other guards have received similar death threates.

Dumar de Jesus Guerrero, alias “Carecuchillo,” is the brother of slain ERPAC leader “Cuchillo” and considered highly dangerous.

Carecuchillo was able to escape La Picota in February last year, but caught three months later. The army had pronounced the drug trafficker’s death in November 2007, nine months before his arrest. Carecuchillo is suspected of at least 30 murders.
