Crime drops 53% during holy week: Colombia police

by Adriaan Alsema April 25, 2011

Colombia news - Policeman in Bogota

Crime in Colombia dropped 53% during the Holy Week compared to the same week last year, police say.

According to the police’s Citizen Security director Jose Roberto Leon, that in the week from April 17 until April 24 1,363 crimes were registered against 2,915 in the same week last year.

The dramatic drop can be explained by the fact that the Holy Week last year was celebrated three weeks earlier.

Police mobilized some 160,000 officers to provide security at processions and during holiday travels.
